About one out of three people with Autism have speech related problems. There are many types of speech disorder early intervention and speech therapy would be of great help. People with Autism may show one of the following speech related problem:

  • Do not talk at all
  • Utter grunts, cries, shrieks, or throaty, harsh sounds
  • Hum or talk in a musical way
  • Babble with word-like sounds
  • Use foreign-sounding “words” or robotic-like speech based on what they have heard and viewed
  • Parrot or often repeat what another person says (called echolalia)
  • Use the right phrases and sentences, but with an non expressive tone of voice

We apply the following techniques in our speech theraphy sessions:

  • Electronic “talkers”
  • Using picture boards with words, communication via pictures and words
  • Using sounds to which a person is over- or under-sensitive to expand and compress speech sounds
  • Improving articulation of speech by massaging or exercising lips or facial muscles
  • Having individuals sing songs composed to match the rhythm, stress, and flow of sentences

We not only have speech therapy for our full time programme students but now are open to non full time students who are interested. Please contact us for more details or visit us at our center.
