The program is open to individuals aged 18 and above, with learning hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., combining both individual and group learning. Participants gain hands-on experience through partnerships with companies such as QSR Manufacturing, Faber-Castell, Gida, Peraliph, and Gleneagles Hospital. Tasks include packing items, assembling components, and preparing materials for delivery. These collaborations help develop practical skills and promote workplace readiness.
Sheltered Workshop is a place of work where persons with mental handicap can be gainfully employed in a safe environment. They will be engaged in contract work and will receive a salary for the work done. In addition they will receive the allowance for workers with disability, from the Ministry of Woman, Family and Community Development. The Sheltered Workshop will be run by supervisors who will provide guidance, when necessary, for the workers.
The Association has a total of 85 workers with mental handicap in its sheltered workshops. While we are happy to report that a number of SAMH trainees are successfully employed in the open job market, the majority may have difficulties in doing so. The sheltered workshop bridges this gap and provides a much needed service for the mentally handicapped. The sheltered workshop will enable them to earn a living with dignity and respect.
